Bakis (or Bakış) is prophetic title for historical figures such as Jesus and Moses, associated with the miracle of speaking independently from birth. The reason behind the inception of this title is allegedly that such figures would utter this word in excitement upon making eye contact because it is what it means in Turkish, and people who witnessed this would refer to the baby with this word.
In literature Bakis is attested as a prophetic title in ancient Greece. And according to Herodotus babies in the Pharaoh's language deprivation experiment uttered the word “bekos”.
