Manipulation or misinterpretation of latin numberals or in latin numerals. The case is that. In European and many other languages numbers are represented by wrong words. At first it may seem like it is based on the Turkish numerals but I will try to provide historical evidence after pointing out connections with Turkish numerals. The table below is according to the literature.
Anc. Gr. | Latin | English | Modern Turkish | |
5 | Pente (ΠΕΝΤΕ) | quīnque | five | Beş (Biğ + iş; Derives from same root as 1 + reciprocal suffix) |
6 | heks (ΕΞ) | sex | six | Altı (Alt + ı; Means under of something.) |
7 | hept (ΕΠΤΑ) | septem | seven | Yedi (Ye + Di or Yet+i; Past tense of eat or relates to sense) |
8 | ogdo (ΟΚΤΩ) | octo | eight | Sekiz (Sek + İz; "Sek" means to bounce or pure, “iz” mean trace. This one is like compound word) |
(Meanins in paranthesis actually what directly those words mean in moden Turkish construction but there could be confusions in some instances. 7 ("yedi") directly means he/she/it ate but I also put alternative scenario.)
In most modern languages the word for number 6 sounds like Turkish word for 8. English eight kinda resembles Turkish word for 7. And as a striking coincidence English word "ate" pretty much sounds same as eight. Turkish word number 7 ("yedi") also exactly past tense of eat in Turkish.
You would think obviously something wrong with Turkish if there was a connection at all considering the consensus among other languages. But hold on few seconds. Did you know it is thought that eighth month in Ancient Greek calendar were named sixth month for 700~ years until it is given the name of emperor Augustus. Does this really make sense? According to literature early calender was consisted of ten months and two months were just unnamed and they added to two months to the beginning of the calendar which resulted names of the months to be shifted. And they called 8. month sixth month for 7 century. Less unbelievable than that this is pretty believable for academics. For instance September kept its name and it is nineth month despite it means seventh month. (I mean obviously it means ninth not actually seventh.)
(The word interpreted as seven, in one instance interpreted as wild animal in Quran. 5:3. Represents strong cross cultural argument about asociation between the number 7 and cats. Also there is another word in Turkish used for claws of wild animals which is “pençe” which also resembles penta. But this one seems like more wider term like correspondent of claw. There is a plant named “Aslanpençesi” which kinda further implies its general use. Nail count of cats not really important anyway since they are both not visible and they don't leave a trace that matches the count necessarily.)
(Because big numbers were groupped to a big shape in old cultures, it is uncomparably more likely for them to count the big pad of cats as 3 rather than just +1. Like putting a cross on III to make counting easier.)
