It seems like aliens started to make their existence increasingly noticable in recent years. Although it is possible that it was the long case for many governmental actor. Maybe it seemed like they were just observing.
It is really hard to speculate that aliens have not been already interacting in many ways.
If there isn't a very complicated case based on recent events I think they will soon take over some parts of world especially I think Afghanistan. They may enforce some rules for rest of the world and their presence will consequences but I don't think they will technically take over the world. Maybe they will run polls. Afghanistan's capital named “Kabul”. Sounds like they are dying for it. Considering Americans poured decent amount of money into demonizing aliens likely aliens created an impression like they would be taking over if humans wanted. This definitely wouldn't be the case except another fantasy. Although would be outdated one.
It is not exactly clear what the hack they are doing. It would be a relief to aliens to be official, for various reasons. Ongoing Iran war wouldn't happen for instance. In the presence of aliens everybody would be trying to be good boys. Although it doesn't seem like that is what they want. It is even possible that aliens were making world more abnormal place for the sake of movie they were making. In practice humans do that for aliens but it is not possible to know how aliens were influencing the world. It is really weird and ambigious situation and I have to be optimistic not that there are no reasons to be optimistic.
